AEW’s Lance Archer Talks About Evolution in Professional Wrestling
Lance Archer is known for his imposing presence, yet he moves around the ring with the agility of someone much lighter. On his new podcast, “The Hawk’s Nest,” Archer shared insights about his training under old-school wrestlers who had specific expectations for his size. Despite this, he began incorporating various styles into his wrestling over time.
“Back in the early 2000s, there was a set idea of what big men in wrestling should be, but the business was evolving,” Archer explained. “The wrestling world always evolves, and that’s just part of life.”
In the early stages of his career, Archer was encouraged to stay true to himself rather than conform to traditional notions of what a “big man” should be. As he progressed, he started adding more athletic maneuvers to his moveset, including backflips.
“I never went too extreme,” Archer said. “The moonsault was probably the most ambitious move. … Before I landed on my head in AEW, I had never hit my head with that move, and it seemed like a simple one.”
