Former AEW Champions Taking Time Off Following All Out 2024

Following Saturday night’s All Out 2024 pay-per-view event at the NOW Arena in Chicago, IL, it has been reported that AEW will be without two of its top stars for a while.

The event featured a heated singles match between Daniel Garcia and MJF. The match ended controversially as MJF landed a sneaky low blow that the referee didn’t catch, allowing him to secure a pinfall with a jackknife.

After the match, Garcia shook MJF’s hand but retaliated with a low blow of his own, followed by a second rope piledriver, leaving MJF to be stretchered out of the arena.

The main event saw Swerve Strickland battle Hangman Page in an Unsanctioned Steel Cage Match. Page used a needle to stab Strickland in the mouth and finished him off with a brutal chair shot, securing the win.

Medical staff were quick to check on Strickland after the violent encounter. It was clear that the physical toll on both wrestlers was significant.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that both MJF and Strickland are set to take time off. Meltzer mentioned that MJF is taking a break, emphasizing that injury angles played into their absences.

Bryan Alvarez noted, “Because he almost never loses, much less twice in a row,” highlighting the significance of their absence. Meltzer elaborated that Swerve and MJF will be gone for some time, confirming their time off due to injury storylines.

Alvarez speculated that Strickland would also be out for a while, considering the brutal match. Meltzer confirmed hearing that Swerve had plans for time off after signing his contract, with this match serving as the storyline setup for his break.
