The contest was hard-hitting, with both competitors showing incredible determination. Thorpe, undeterred by Femi’s size advantage, repeatedly took the champion off his feet. At one point, Thorpe landed an impressive elbow drop off the top rope for a near fall, followed by a German suplex that sent Femi flying. The momentum shifted when Thorpe sent Femi crashing shoulder-first into the ring post, but the resilient champion fought back.
As the match reached its climax, Femi intercepted Thorpe’s corner kick attempt, countering it into a devastating powerbomb to retain his title.
Despite the victory, Femi’s celebration was cut short when former NXT Champion Trick Williams confronted him, making it clear that he wanted a rematch for the championship. Thorpe attempted to intervene, but he was quickly taken down by a Trick Shot from Williams. The show ended with Femi and Williams locking eyes, the tension palpable as Williams eyed the NXT Championship.
This title defense came after a series of heated confrontations. Femi had previously attacked Thorpe backstage before their main event match at NXT New Year’s Evil, leaving him less than 100%. Thorpe retaliated by blindsiding Femi with a dropkick and DDT in the ring. Afterward, Femi requested a one-on-one title match, which was approved by NXT General Manager Ava.
It seems Femi’s reign as NXT Champion is just beginning, but with Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe both gunning for the title, his path forward is far from clear.
