Before joining All Elite Wrestling in May 2023, Kyle Fletcher gained valuable experience wrestling in Japan under NJPW. During his time there, Fletcher held the IWGP Tag Team Championship alongside Mark Davis. He revealed that his stint in Japan led to one of his most significant learning experiences.
“Japan has had a huge impact on my wrestling style,” Fletcher shared with “Inside The Ring.” “It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why, but whenever a wrestler tours Japan, whether it’s for a month or just a few tours, they come back transformed. I definitely felt that.”
Fletcher continued, “Maybe it’s because you’re wrestling veterans who’ve been there for 20 years, night after night, in different towns. You’re on the road with them constantly. Whatever the reason, everyone comes back from Japan a better wrestler, and I was no exception.”
After his second tour in Japan, Fletcher and Davis joined AEW. However, Davis has been sidelined since October 2023. In the meantime, Fletcher has aligned with The Don Callis Family while maintaining ties with former member Will Ospreay. Recently, Fletcher and Ospreay won the Casino Gauntlet, earning an AEW Tag Team Championship shot at “AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.”
