A brief clip aired during Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown has sparked speculation that the Motor City Machine Guns are set to make their WWE debut on the blue brand. The teaser, which showcased imagery of Detroit and the words “Coming Soon,” is widely believed to herald the arrival of the highly decorated tag team.
The Motor City Machine Guns, who are multi-time tag team champions across various promotions, parted ways with TNA at the end of their contracts in April. Initially, there were reports in September suggesting that they had signed with WWE and were expected to join NXT. However, the latest teaser indicates they are likely bound for SmackDown. According to PWInsider, the teaser is indeed for the Machine Guns. Further confirmation seemed to come when WWE’s Brazilian commentary team reportedly stated on social media that the video was for the popular tag team.
The potential WWE debut of the Motor City Machine Guns concludes months of speculation surrounding their next move. Following their departure from TNA, it was initially reported in April that they were negotiating with AEW, where they had previously wrestled for Tony Khan at All Out 2022. However, despite discussions with Khan about their potential role in AEW, no deal was finalized, and rumors began circulating that the Guns were leaning toward signing with WWE instead.
The timing of this tease also coincides with news that AEW President Tony Khan has exercised a clause in Rey Fenix’s contract, extending it due to injury. This move effectively prevented another tag team, The Lucha Brothers—comprised of Fenix and his brother Penta El Zero Miedo—from potentially jumping ship to WWE.
The Motor City Machine Guns’ imminent debut in WWE would add yet another layer of excitement to the tag team division, and fans are eager to see what the duo will bring to SmackDown.
