Conrad Thompson Calls Netflix’s WWE-Vince McMahon Series a ‘Double-Shovel Burial’

Netflix recently released the first trailer for “Mr. McMahon,” a new docuseries that will explore Vince McMahon’s rise and fall in the wrestling world—from taking over WWE from his father to his recent downfall due to a lawsuit from a former employee accusing him of sex trafficking. The six-part series is set to premiere ahead of “WWE Raw” moving to the platform in early 2025. Although WWE was initially supposed to be involved with the project, the company has since stated that it has no official role in the series. On a recent episode of “Keepin’ It 100,” Konnan, Conrad Thompson, and Disco Inferno discussed the documentary and WWE’s relationship with Netflix. Thompson noted that the series’ executive producer, Bill Simmons, is independent in his approach, adding that WWE insiders are likely displeased with the portrayal.

“It’s a hit piece that they don’t like,” Thompson said. “He’s talking to [David] Shuemaker, [Dave] Meltzer, and others. It’s definitely a double-shovel burial.”

When Disco Inferno pointed out that wrestling journalists often criticize figures like McMahon and Hulk Hogan while still being involved in the business, Thompson responded that it’s important to “separate the art from the artist,” much like he does with Chris Benoit and now McMahon.

“He’s created some magical moments for millions, including myself, but he wasn’t always a great person,” Thompson explained. “If you look at most of our heroes, whether in entertainment, music, or other fields, they can disappoint you. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop appreciating their past work.”
