Chris Jericho on Training and Weightlifting: A Shift in Focus

Chris Jericho, whose wrestling career spans nearly 35 years, is renowned for his ability to constantly reinvent himself. However, his approach to training and diet has evolved significantly over the years, reflecting changes in his body and priorities as he ages.

In a recent appearance on “The Adam Carolla Show,” Jericho discussed his current training regimen, which he says has shifted away from traditional weightlifting. He emphasized that as he gets older, the number of pounds he can bench press has become less relevant. Instead, he focuses on kickboxing, which serves as both an effective cardio workout and a way to maintain his physique.

“I don’t lift weights, per se, anymore because my joints are getting too messed up,” Jericho explained. “It really is focused on diet now more than anything.” He believes that weightlifting can become counterproductive for older athletes, putting strain on joints and ligaments, which can lead to injury.

Despite being fortunate enough not to suffer significant injuries throughout his career, Jericho acknowledges the inherent risks involved in wrestling. “Wrestling is still a contact sport,” he noted, reminding listeners that even with caution, it’s essential to remain durable and aware of one’s body.
