As the Gulf Coast braces for Hurricane Milton, regions in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee are still reeling from the impacts of Hurricane Helene, which severely affected towns like Asheville, NC. During a recent media call ahead of WrestleDream, AEW President Tony Khan shared how a conversation with AEW star and WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland helped him gain perspective amid the chaos caused by the hurricane.
“I talked to [Adam Copeland]… and while I was dealing with some booking issues, Adam called me backstage at Collision,” Khan recounted. “He was with FEMA workers, assisting them as they worked to recover bodies from the devastation. Here I was, running on six cups of coffee and stressed over canceled flights.”
Khan explained that this conversation inspired him to reevaluate his own challenges, realizing how trivial they were compared to the hardships others were facing. In light of the situation, Khan has made significant donations to Asheville, the hometown of AEW wrestler Cash Wheeler, who has been instrumental in organizing relief efforts within the wrestling community. Many wrestlers have contributed to these initiatives.
Adam Copeland’s personal connection to the area also made the situation more poignant. His wife, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, updated fans on their family’s condition post-hurricane, noting that their daughter experienced an infection in the aftermath but was able to receive medical attention by navigating through flooded streets.
