AEW’s Adam Copeland Explains Why He Only Recently Considered Himself An Actor

Adam Copeland, known for his legendary pro wrestling career and recent acting ventures, recently opened up about his journey into acting. While he’s appeared in several TV shows over the years, including The Flash, Haven, Vikings, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians (where he plays Ares, the God of War), it took Copeland a while to fully embrace the title of “actor.”

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Copeland explained that although he had fallen in love with acting, he was hesitant to label himself as such. It wasn’t until his manager informed him of an Emmy nomination in the Best Supporting Performer in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program category for his portrayal of Ares that he finally came to terms with his acting career. When his manager asked if he considered himself an actor now, Copeland replied, “Yeah, I guess I kind of have to.”

This Emmy nomination marked a significant milestone in Copeland’s second career, something his past self would have never believed was possible. However, his wife, former WWE star Beth Phoenix, always had faith in him. Copeland recalled how she once told him, “You’re going to be the first wrestler nominated for an Emmy.” At the time, Copeland was skeptical, but he appreciated her support.

Despite only recently feeling like a true actor, Copeland credits his experience on Haven as the key inspiration for his love of the craft. While there are obvious differences between acting and wrestling, Copeland highlighted that both careers allow him to channel his creative side and storytelling abilities. His passion for acting has become an important part of his life, alongside his ongoing wrestling career with AEW.
