AEW’s Kyle Fletcher reflects on his biggest learning experience as a wrestler.

Before signing with All Elite Wrestling in May 2023, Kyle Fletcher spent considerable time in Japan wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). During his tenure, Fletcher, alongside Mark Davis, held the IWGP Tag Team Championship. It was also in Japan that Fletcher experienced one of his most significant learning moments in his wrestling career.

“Japan has had a big influence on my wrestling style,” Fletcher recently shared on “Inside The Ring.” “I can’t pinpoint the exact reason, but every wrestler who goes to Japan for a month-long tour or even multiple tours comes back different. I certainly felt that way.”

Fletcher believes this transformation is due to the experience of wrestling veterans with decades of experience in Japan, night after night, across various towns. “I can’t exactly explain why, but I just know everyone comes back as a better wrestler from Japan, and that was certainly the case for me,” he added.

After completing his second tour in Japan, Fletcher and Davis officially joined AEW, though Davis has been sidelined since October 2023. Since then, Fletcher has aligned with The Don Callis Family while maintaining a close connection with former member Will Ospreay. Most recently, Fletcher and Ospreay won a Casino Gauntlet, securing an AEW Tag Team Championship match at “AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.”
