According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, many of the ideas in the recent Cody Rhodes/Malakai Black feud have come from AEW President Tony Khan himself. Khan originally came up with the idea for the storyline, which began after Black attacked Arn Anderson in Miami, FL. Black then wound up pinning Rhodes in Jacksonville, FL. Khan reportedly sold Rhodes on the idea that Black was the current guy and now was the time for him to lose.
As we previously reported here on eWn, Rhodes will be leaving to shoot season two of the Go Big Show so the timing made sense. It should also be noted that Black came up with some of the segments in between his debut and the match itself. Black also wrote most of his own promo lines, including the one about Cody being a horse that needed to be put down.
