Samoa Joe took to Twitter earlier this evening, announcing that he’s been told by WWE’s medical staff that he needs to step away from the ring for the time being. Due to this, he has relinquished the WWE NXT Championship.
While Joe didn’t reveal how long he’d be out of action, he said that WWE’s medical staff has deemed him unable to compete due to “undisclosed injuries.” Joe went on to say that the new era of NXT needs a “fighting champion” and said this was a “very difficult decision” that he has been forced to make.
The official statement from WWE reads as follows,
NXT Champion Samoa Joe revealed Sunday night on Twitter that he has sustained an injury, and is not able to compete at this time. As a result, he is relinquishing the NXT Championship.
