CM Punk Talks Potential Matches with The Rock and John Cena, Hints at Royal Rumble Plans
Now a year into his second WWE run, CM Punk has managed to overcome significant challenges, including injuries and a personal theft scandal, to solidify his place in the company. Fresh off a victory over Seth Rollins on the WWE Raw Netflix debut, which seemingly concluded their long-standing feud, Punk is already looking ahead to what’s next.
During the post-Raw media scrum, Punk was asked about the possibility of facing old rivals The Rock and John Cena. While he expressed openness to the idea, Punk made it clear that championship gold remains his primary focus.
“I think I want gold around my waist,” Punk said. “But those two names come with big, fat paychecks, so I’m not going to say no to it. It could be interesting. I wouldn’t say no to it. I’m into the big, high-pressure, money situations, you know. I think that’s when I come alive. I definitely owe The Rock, I definitely owe John…yeah. I would welcome both of them with open arms.”
Punk also made a playful jab at Cena, mentioning a brief hallway interaction: “I saw John, passed him in the hallway. He looked a little tired, he looked like he needed to go to sleep. I’m sure I’ll see him in Indianapolis.”
This is a clear reference to the upcoming Royal Rumble premium live event in Indianapolis on February 1. Both Cena and Punk officially declared their entry into the Rumble match during Monday’s Raw, setting the stage for a potential in-ring encounter between the two for the first time in nearly 12 years.
Punk’s comments have fueled speculation about the potential return of other blockbuster matches, especially with WWE’s recent focus on high-profile, legacy-driven storytelling. Whether Punk’s next big moment involves another run at a championship or clashes with legendary names like The Rock and Cena, fans are eager to see how his story unfolds on the road to WrestleMania.
