WWE recently released a video highlighting Larry, CM Punk’s small rescue dog and mascot, which has become an amusing element in the ongoing feud between Punk and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Drew McIntyre. Throughout their increasingly personal rivalry, McIntyre has frequently invoked Larry’s name.
On Monday, McIntyre took to social media to further escalate the tension by referencing a classic scene from the comedy film “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” In his post, McIntyre humorously threatened to kick Larry off a bridge, similar to the scene where Jack Black’s unnamed biker character does the same to Burgundy’s dog, Baxter.
In the WWE video that McIntyre was mocking, Punk addressed the situation by stating that McIntyre’s use of Larry’s name had crossed a line, and he intended to make an example of the vindictive Scotsman. Their feud has been intense, especially since McIntyre claimed responsibility for Punk’s injury during the Royal Rumble in January, which sidelined Punk in his first televised WWE match in a decade. Following weeks of McIntyre’s taunts, Punk cost him the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40, leaving the newly crowned champion vulnerable to an attack from Money in the Bank holder Damian Priest.
As it stands, the rivalry is tied at 1-1, with McIntyre winning their encounter at SummerSlam and Punk claiming victory in a Strap Match at Bash in Berlin. The two are set to face off for their third—and likely final—match on October 5 at Bad Blood in Atlanta, where they will compete inside Hell in a Cell.
