Former MLW Champion Answers Oba Femi Open Challenge On WWE NXT

Earlier today, reports confirmed that former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone was at the WWE Performance Center, working on spots with WWE NXT North American Champion Oba Femi. These preparations were for Femi’s open challenge title defense against Hammerstone.

Before tonight’s episode of “WWE NXT,” Tony D’Angelo was seen paying a mystery figure to take out Femi. That figure turned out to be Hammerstone, who is currently signed to TNA Wrestling. Hammerstone quickly gained the upper hand in the NXT North American Championship match by sending Femi crashing to the mat and then out of the ring with a clothesline. However, Femi is known for his resilience and did not stay down for long.

In the final moments of the match, Hammerstone delivered a pair of belly-to-belly suplexes and a chokeslam, but Femi kicked out of the pinfall attempt. Femi then shifted the momentum, hitting Hammerstone with a slam and a powerbomb to secure the win and achieve his 11th successful televised title defense.

After leaving Major League Wrestling at the end of 2023, Hammerstone signed with TNA at the beginning of 2024. Since then, he has had notable rivalries with Eric Young and “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander. Recently, he competed for the TNA X-Division Championship at TNA Emergence, where Zachary Wentz emerged victorious. Hammerstone’s appearance on “NXT” is part of the ongoing collaboration between WWE and TNA.
