Mustafa Ali opened up about an emotionally challenging day in his life during a recent interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. In September 2023, he received the news from WWE that his contract was being terminated, but what followed in the next few minutes made the day even more difficult.
Ali shared that he had just been informed of his release when his wife’s phone rang shortly after. “Five minutes goes by [after getting the call about the release] and her phone rings,” he recalled. His wife had been dealing with severe neck pain for months, which had gradually worsened. Despite efforts to alleviate it, the pain became debilitating. Ali described how they eventually sought medical help, and it was revealed that his wife had a broken neck and would need surgery.
“Yeah, you have a broken neck and you need surgery,” Ali said, quoting the doctor’s call. The timing of the diagnosis, just minutes after his own release from WWE, shifted his focus entirely. Ali expressed how his attention immediately turned to his wife and her health, with all of his energy now dedicated to her well-being.
The incident occurred while Ali was downstairs working out, and after hearing the news of his release, he walked upstairs to tell his wife. Unfortunately, not long after, she received the alarming call from her doctor. Fortunately, with the help of some doctor friends, the couple was able to schedule her surgery soon after the diagnosis.
This deeply personal moment sheds light on the difficulties Ali faced on that particular day, managing both career uncertainty and his wife’s serious health condition.
