For a while, it seemed like Seth Rollins would temporarily bury the hatchet with Roman Reigns and join Reigns’ reformed Bloodline to face Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline at WarGames during Survivor Series. However, that spot was ultimately filled by CM Punk, brought in by his long-time friend and Reigns’ “Wise Man” Paul Heyman. Despite some initial tension, the move proved successful, with Punk, Reigns, the Usos, and Sami Zayn emerging victorious this past Saturday.
As a prominent voice in the wrestling media from the Anoa’i/Fatu family, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi had some thoughts on Punk being the final member of Reigns’ WarGames team. On the most recent episode of “Off The Top Rope,” Rikishi expressed his surprise at Punk’s involvement in the match. He clarified that his confusion wasn’t due to any personal feelings towards Punk, but rather because he saw Punk’s star power as being more valuable elsewhere.
“I don’t know,” Rikishi said. “I mean, really? CM Punk? I didn’t see that coming…I really didn’t. With Paul being out, and that phone call that led up from Roman calling Paul…I probably would’ve thought it would be somebody like Brock Lesnar. I don’t know, you know what I mean? Again, with CM Punk, he’s such a big asset to the company in terms of drawing people to the arenas, the PPV, or the event. I just kind of see CM Punk off by himself.”
