Stephen Amell Discusses CM Punk’s Role in “Heels” and Casting Changes
Outside of professional wrestling, CM Punk has ventured into acting, with his latest role being Paul in “Mayans M.C.” However, his most notable performance is as Ricky Rabies in the wrestling drama “Heels,” where he starred alongside Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig. In a recent interview on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” Amell shared how Punk joined the cast of “Heels.”
Amell revealed that Punk was not initially cast in the role. “We had filmed several scenes with a different actor and actress for the roles of Rickie Rabies and Vickie Rabies,” Amell explained. The original actors left due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amell praised Punk for his acting skills and working relationship, stating, “I stand by my match with him; it was a lot of fun, and if that’s a small part of why he returned to wrestling, I’m happy with that.” He also noted Punk’s assertive nature and expressed regret for missing Punk’s wrestling return at “AEW Rampage: The First Dance.”
Although “Heels” was canceled in 2023, the first two seasons will debut on Netflix starting September 15. The series’ performance on the platform could influence the possibility of a third season, a potential outcome former showrunner Mike O’Malley believes might occur.
