Tommy Dreamer Shares His Reservations About Wrestling Documentaries

In the world of professional wrestling, where secrecy and dramatic behind-the-scenes stories abound, documentaries have become a popular medium to explore various figures and events. The latest high-profile docuseries is “Mr. McMahon” on Netflix. However, ECW legend Tommy Dreamer has voiced his concerns about wrestling documentaries during a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio.

“I’m against documentaries,” Dreamer stated when asked if he planned to watch the Mr. McMahon documentary. “It’s just whatever narrative wants to be spun.” He reflected on the irony of Vince McMahon being the focus of a “manipulated” documentary, especially considering his long history of controlling narratives within the wrestling business. Dreamer emphasized that if the Netflix series centers around the Mr. McMahon character rather than the real person behind it, then it’s merely a constructed narrative. “I probably won’t even watch it because it frustrates me,” he added. He mentioned that his feelings toward documentaries of this nature have been consistent over the years and argued that the focus should be on McMahon’s life and legacy instead.

Dreamer also shared that many wrestlers who worked with McMahon in the ’80s and ’90s have expressed similar sentiments, stating they won’t be watching the documentary either. “It is what it is, and people can draw their own conclusions,” he said. He further noted that any claims made about McMahon would be scrutinized, complicating his already controversial standing in the industry.
