After three years of growth in WWE NXT, Tony D’Angelo has made a significant mark, achieving titles such as a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, the NXT Heritage Cup winner, and now the current NXT North American Champion. Recently, he joined The Ringer Wrestling Show to discuss the emotional significance of his latest title win, where he surpassed Oma Femi’s record-setting reign.
“This one was emotional because I climbed the mountain that nobody thought I could climb,” D’Angelo expressed. He emphasized the importance of having his family by his side during this achievement, including Channing Lorenzo, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo. “Emotionally, it meant a little bit more, but having the family with me… they supported me through the tough time of mentally not knowing what to do,” he added, acknowledging their role in helping him overcome challenges in his career.
D’Angelo also made history as the first NXT superstar to hold the NXT Tag Team Championship, Heritage Cup, and NXT North American Championship. When asked about the possibility of challenging Trick Williams for the NXT Championship, he noted, “Of course, everybody thinks about that, but you know what, I think Trick’s a nice guy… I don’t wanna take it from him right away; I’ll let him hang on to it for a little bit and then we’ll re-evaluate.”
He shared the joy his family expressed upon hearing about his title win, stating, “It was great. The family was… I can’t explain in words how excited they were for me. It means a lot. It just means I got a lot of people in my corner, and that’s a good feeling to know people got your back and want to see you succeed.”
