The Grizzled Young Veterans have made their mark in AEW, debuting at All In in Wembley Stadium. The former WWE NXT UK Tag Team Champions have already challenged former AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR in a backstage interview, aiming to distinguish themselves from other title holders.
“For 18 years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to this job,” Gibson said, expressing frustration with being compared to FTR. “It’s disheartening to see our life’s work reduced to comparisons. They are the reason why I’ve grown to dislike a job I once loved.” His tag team partner, James Drake, emphasized their intent to prove themselves superior to FTR and make a significant impact on AEW fans.
“FTR, it’s straightforward,” Drake stated. “When we’re done with you, people will say, ‘Wow, just like the American Grizzled Young Veterans.'”
Drake and Gibson debuted after the three-way tag team title match at All In, where The Young Bucks defeated FTR and The Acclaimed. Following their victory, Drake and Gibson attacked The Bucks. Previously, the duo was a key part of WWE’s NXT UK before transitioning to “WWE NXT” as The Dyad in Joe Gacy’s former stable, The Schism. They became free agents last October and returned to the UK independent scene.
