The Grizzled Young Veterans have made their mark in AEW. The former WWE NXT UK Tag Team Champions debuted at All In in Wembley Stadium and immediately targeted former AEW World Tag Team Champions, FTR, in a backstage interview. They are eager to prove they are different from the team they’ve often been compared to.
“For 18 years, we’ve been doing this,” said Gibson, clearly frustrated by the constant comparisons to FTR. “Do you know what it feels like to have your entire career summed up as a comparison? They are the reason I hate the job I used to love.” His tag team partner, James Drake, emphasized that the Grizzled Young Veterans are ready to show FTR and the AEW fans who the superior team truly is.
“FTR, it’s simple,” Drake stated. “When we’re done, everyone will say, ‘Wow, they’re just like an American Grizzled Young Veterans.'”
Gibson and Drake made their debut after a three-way tag team title match at All In, where The Young Bucks defeated FTR and The Acclaimed. Following the match, they ambushed The Bucks, who had just retained their titles. Previously, the duo were top stars in WWE’s NXT UK brand before it was shut down. They later moved to WWE NXT, where they were rebranded as The Dyad as part of Joe Gacy’s faction, The Schism. They became free agents in October last year and have since been active on the UK independent scene.
