Former AEW manager and current WWE Vice President of Global Talent Relations, William Regal, has responded to accusations made by AEW President Tony Khan. Khan alleged that Regal used Khan’s mother’s illness as a pretext to exit his AEW contract and attempted to interfere with AEW contracts during his return to WWE as a talent liaison. In a recent statement on X (formerly Twitter), Regal set the record straight.
“Though it fits certain people’s narratives, and despite having a large number of AEW staff who can vouch for me, I joined AEW simply because Bryan Danielson asked me to,” Regal wrote in response to a fan’s comment. “I was there to help, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. I would arrive at 10 a.m. and stay until 6:15 p.m. (EST) to train anyone who wanted it. I never attended a single production meeting. My role was solely to help, and I never inquired about anyone’s contract status.”
Regal explained that he assisted talent with in-ring training before shows, and then changed into a suit to watch the events backstage.
“I also never called Tony when his mom was ill,” Regal clarified. “He reached out to me, and once I knew his situation, I ended the call, and we didn’t speak again until two weeks later. Just for the record, my contract was set to end on December 28th, and that’s when I left.”
With this statement, Regal aimed to put rumors to rest and clarify the circumstances surrounding his AEW departure.
