WWE Hall of Famer X-Pac Recalls DX’s Iconic WCW Invasion

At the peak of the infamous WWE vs. WCW “Monday Night Wars,” D-Generation X (DX) staged one of the most audacious and talked-about publicity stunts in pro wrestling history: a bold “invasion” of the WCW headquarters. This event helped solidify DX’s place in wrestling lore and gave WWE a much-needed morale boost in the heated competition with WCW.

X-Pac, a key member of DX at the time, recalled this unforgettable moment during his appearance on the WWE Vault. He expressed that the “WCW Invasion” remains one of the top three biggest moments of his career. “It was unheard of that we did that; it was just crazy!” X-Pac reflected. “No one would have ever thought we had the balls to do that.”

While the stunt was wild, X-Pac admitted they had some regrets. The group had initially planned to enter the building, but WCW quickly locked down their headquarters. “My whole idea was like, ‘We gotta get in the building!'” X-Pac confessed, reflecting on his original vision for the invasion.

At the time, WCW was the only serious competitor to WWE in the wrestling business, which made the stunt even more dangerous. “WCW’s the only other buyer in the wrestler’s market at that time. It would be kind of burning a bridge, right? At least, that’s what the concern was – and none of us cared!” he added, emphasizing the rebellious spirit that defined DX.

The invasion took a turn when the group managed to enter the CNN Tower, where they were greeted by security who were prepared to escort them out. However, just as tensions escalated, X-Pac recalled hearing a friendly voice: “And then all of a sudden, we hear ‘DX, I love you guys!’ and it’s Dick Cheatham, the Vice President of Turner Broadcasting.” To X-Pac’s surprise, Cheatham offered the group all-access passes, though he did not elaborate on whether they took up the offer.

This bold move remains one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history and a testament to the defiance and creativity of DX.
