WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page Discusses AEW Departure and Desire to Contribute More

Ethan Page, the current NXT Champion, made headlines when he transitioned from AEW to WWE’s developmental brand earlier this summer, surprising fans from both promotions. Shortly after his debut, Page quickly rose to prominence, capturing the NXT Championship from Trick Williams in under two months. In a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Page shared his thoughts on the switch and what WWE represents for him now.

Initially, Page wasn’t certain that “NXT” would be an option after leaving AEW, but he felt a strong urge to continue pursuing his career. “I had 70 independent dates scheduled because I thought, ‘I have two kids, a house, cars, and we just got our green cards after moving to America,'” he explained. “This is where we live now, and I need to make sure my children are fed and my bills are paid.”

Reflecting on his decision to leave AEW, Page felt it was time for a change. Upon joining “NXT,” he found himself with the chance to showcase what he could bring to the table. With a hint of humor, he noted that he had over 17 years of preparation for this moment. Despite nearly giving up on his dreams at one point, Page persevered and now holds a championship title in one of the largest wrestling promotions in the world.

“I definitely could have stayed [in AEW] and just collected a paycheck for a long time,” Page admitted. “But when I looked at my age, I realized that starting with the number three isn’t usually a good sign when trying to join WWE. I just knew I had more to offer the wrestling business as a whole.”
