Ethan Page, the reigning NXT Champion, made a significant move from AEW to WWE’s developmental brand earlier this summer, surprising fans from both promotions. It didn’t take long for “All Ego” to make a name for himself, as he captured the NXT Championship from Trick Williams just two months after his debut. In a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Page opened up about his transition between promotions and what WWE means to him now.
Initially, Page was uncertain about the possibility of joining “NXT” after leaving AEW, but he felt a strong urge to keep pushing forward. “I had 70 independent dates lined up because I was thinking, ‘I have two kids, a house, cars, and we just got our green cards after moving to America,'” he explained. “This is our home now, and I need to ensure my children are fed and my bills are covered.”
When it came to leaving AEW, Page felt the time was right. Upon joining “NXT,” he found himself presented with a unique opportunity to showcase his talents. With a touch of humor, he mentioned having “at least 17 years of preparation” for this moment. Despite moments of doubt about his dreams, he persevered and now proudly holds a championship title in one of the largest wrestling promotions in history.
“I definitely could have stayed [in AEW] and just collected a paycheck for a long time,” Page stated. “But when I looked at my age, I realized starting with the number three isn’t typically a good sign when trying to join WWE. I just knew I had more to offer the wrestling business overall.”
