Former tag team partners Wes Lee and Zachary Wentz have transitioned from allies to bitter rivals after Lee’s shocking betrayal of Wentz and Trey Miguel on the August 6 episode of “WWE NXT.” Now, two months later, the two are set to clash in a Street Fight during tonight’s CW Network debut of “NXT.” In a recent interview with Metro UK, Wentz shared his thoughts on preparing for this violent stipulation, viewing it as a chance to showcase “another side” of himself that many wrestling fans may not have witnessed.
“I feel like a lot of people have mostly seen my high-flying moves and my tag team work,” Wentz explained. “But I can go toe-to-toe with the best of them. I actually enjoy weapon matches; the creativity involved is insane.”
As he prepares for the Street Fight, Wentz has sought advice from TNA colleagues, particularly the legendary duo of Matt and Jeff Hardy. He mentioned rewatching iconic TLC (Tables, Ladders, and Chairs) matches featuring The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, and Edge and Christian from WWE’s Attitude Era.
“It wasn’t just about smashing each other; they came up with creative ideas and innovative ways to incorporate high-flying maneuvers with dangerous objects,” Wentz said. “The Hardy Boyz are my guys, so every time I see them, I express my gratitude. I try to engage with them as much as possible while respecting their space. They’re truly incredible, both as wrestlers and as people.”
In addition to studying The Hardy Boyz and other tag teams, Wentz has also looked into the work of former TNA World Champion Sami Callihan, who has extensive experience in hardcore matches, including Street Fights throughout his career.
