The wrestling world is known for its secrecy and wild backstage stories, which have become the subject of many documentaries. The latest to draw attention is the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries on Netflix. ECW legend Tommy Dreamer recently voiced his disapproval of such documentaries on Busted Open Radio.
“I’m against documentaries,” Dreamer said when asked if he would be watching the “Mr. McMahon” series. “It’s all about spinning whatever narrative they want.” He pointed out the irony of McMahon being at the center of a documentary that could be seen as “manipulated,” considering McMahon’s long history of controlling narratives himself. Dreamer emphasized that if the documentary focuses on McMahon’s on-screen persona rather than the man behind the character, then it’s simply telling a scripted story. “I probably won’t watch it because stuff like that just makes me mad,” he added. He noted that he’s felt similarly about other wrestling documentaries, expressing his belief that this one should focus more on McMahon’s real life and legacy.
Dreamer also recalled talking to several wrestlers from the ’80s and ’90s who worked with McMahon, and many of them expressed no interest in watching the documentary either. “It is what it is, and people can make up their own minds,” he said. Dreamer also pointed out that everything said about McMahon is going to be heavily scrutinized, making the situation even more complex for McMahon.
