AEW’s Adam Cole has been sidelined for over a year following a freak injury at “AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam,” where he suffered a broken ankle while jumping off the stage to assist his former friend MJF. This injury required multiple surgeries and kept him off the road, as traveling seemed to impede his recovery. However, a new report from Fightful Select suggests that Cole may be on the verge of a comeback.
According to Fightful’s report on Monday, there is optimism backstage regarding Cole’s return, with company insiders “hopeful and even expecting” him back “sooner than later.” Creative plans are reportedly already underway to facilitate his return. Notably, Cole was seen backstage at All Out, walking without a boot and appearing to be in good spirits.
Cole’s last appearance for AEW took place at Double or Nothing in May, where he was attacked by a returning MJF. During that event, he addressed the crowd and showcased the devil mask he used when turning on MJF, a storyline that seemed to have been abandoned due to his injury. He vowed that once he healed, he would “give the devil his due.” Before his injury, Cole’s final match was at All Out 2023, where he successfully defended the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championships alongside MJF against The Dark Order’s John Silver and Alex Reynolds. Earlier in his AEW tenure, after transitioning from WWE, Cole dealt with two concussions that nearly ended his wrestling career.
